1 injured in Voting Day Violence in Karbi Anglong

Guwahati: Violence erupted in Socheng Dhenta on Tuesday night in which one person was allegedly injured ahead of elections for the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).

According to reports, violence broke out at number 17 Rongbongway in Socheng Dhenta in Assam’s Karbi Anglong over suspicions of payment being distributed in exchange for votes.

Allegations were levelled against the ruling party last night alleging that money was distributed in exchange for votes ahead of today’s KAAC elections.

Some anonymous individuals are accused of distributing funds on behalf of BJP candidate Kache Rongpipi.

In the meantime, one person was injured in the ensuing brawl. He has been identified as Dorsing Kramso.

Voting for the KAAC elections in Assam began at 7.30 am today and will continue until 4.30 pm.

Voters will go to the polls in 906 polling places to vote in a total of 26 municipal seats today.

A total of 7,40,060 voters will decide the fate of the 154 candidates that ran for office.

Meanwhile, by-elections for the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC)are being held today.
