100 MBBS Seats Approved By NMC for Nagaon Medical College
Guwahati: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has authorised 100 MBBS seats in the Nagaon Medical College, which might be considered a boost for healthcare facilities in Assam.
The NMC has approved the medical college, making it the second in 2023 and the eleventh in Assam overall.
With this permission, the Nagaon Medical College will begin its MBBS programmes in the academic year 2023–2024 with an enrollment of 100 students.
With this, there are now 1,400 MBBS seats available in the state as a whole.
Meanwhile sharing the news through a tweet, Assam Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “A shot in the arm! The Letter of Intent issued by @NMC_IND to Nagaon Medical College for 100 MBBS seats will boost to our efforts to improve healthcare. It has become the State’s 11th medical college to receive Letter of Intent and 2nd this year after Kokrajhar Medical College.”
The NMC approved Assam’s 10th medical college in the Kokrajhar district on February 14. After this approval, the Kokrajhar Medical College will begin this academic session’s MBBS programmes with 100 students.
According to the National Medical Commission’s regulations, private medical colleges must obtain a Bank Guarantee from a nationalized/scheduled bank against the establishment of new medical colleges with an intake of 100 MBBS seats in favour of the NMC, valid for five years or until the course is recognised, whichever comes first.
The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) will take formal action to approve the increased intake or start of the course at the college after receiving the proper bank guarantee, if applicable, and an undertaking or compliance letter meeting the requirements listed above.
The acceptance letter may be sent up to one week after the date of this letter to allow the MARB to issue the Letter of Approval for the academic year 2023–2024.
