10th Standard Student Becomes DC for a Day in Assam’s Sivasagar!
Guwahati, 31st July: In a remarkable event mirroring the plot of the Bollywood movie ‘Nayak’, a 10th standard student from Deoriting Tea Estate will step into the shoes of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Sivasagar district for a day.
Bhagyadeep Rajgarh, the son of a tea garden worker and a student at Bakta Barbam Higher Secondary School, will assume the symbolic role of heading the district’s administration.
During his one-day stint as DC, Bhagyadeep will have the opportunity to review various ongoing government-run development programs. This momentous occasion marks the first time in Assam’s history that a student will temporarily hold the position of DC.
The rare opportunity for Bhagyadeep comes through the innovative scheme ‘AAROHAN’, introduced by the Assam Government. The scheme aims to provide guidance and support to talented students from Class IX to Class XII, selected from government and provincialised schools, by offering continuous mentoring.
Last year, in June, the Assam Cabinet approved the ‘AAROHAN’ scheme, targeting 8,750 students with innate talents. These students receive mentoring and skill development support for four years, empowering them to excel in their academic careers.
The Assam Government has undertaken several ambitious programs to enhance the quality of secondary education, and ‘AAROHAN’ stands as a testament to their commitment to nurturing talented students from remote, rural, and underprivileged backgrounds.
The appointment of Bhagyadeep Rajgarh as DC for a day is a significant recognition of his potential and a motivating factor for other young talents across the state.
