Mob hampers army ops in Manipur, forces to release detained KYKL cadres

National Desk, 25 June: A mob of 1200 people including women forced the security forces to release 12 cadres of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) from detention at Itham village in Imphal East district of ethnic riot hit Manipur on Saturday.

According to an official statement sent by the Army the mob halted the search operation of the forces at the village and seized weapons, ammunition and war related supplies. A total of 12 cadres of KYKL were detained during the operation.

However, repeated appeals to the aggressive mob to let the Security Forces carry on with operation as per law did not yield any positive result.

“Keeping in view the sensitivity of use of kinetic force against large irate mob led by women and likely casualties due to such action, it was decided to hand over all the 12 cadres to local leader,” the statement said.

The Army said that among the 12 arrested cadres were present the Self Styled Lt Col Moirangthem Tamba alias Uttam, who was the mastermind of 6 DOGRA ambush cases of 2015).

Later the army lifted the cordon and removed the columns and left the area with weapons and aar Like stores recovered from insurgents.

Meanwhile, the Indian Army has appealed to the people of Manipur to support the Security Forces in upholding the law and order in order to bring about peace and stability.
