13 Killed, Several Injured After Bus Falls off Bridge in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar

Guwahati: In a tragic incident, as many as 13 people were killed and several others injured after a bus travelling from Maharashtra crashed through the Khalghat Bridge’s barrier and fell from a height of around 100 feet into the Narmada River in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh on Monday morning.

Dhamnod police station in-charge Rajkumar Yadav said, “We are unsure of the number of passengers in the bus, which is entirely submerged in the depths of the Narmada River. The likelihood of survival is slim.”

He added that heavy machinery was used to pull the bus out of the water while it was travelling from Indore to Pune when it crashed through the barrier and sank into the river.

A team from the state disaster reaction force (SDRF) is on the spot and coordinating the rescue effort with nearby fisherman.

Senior authorities from Dhar and Indore have rushed to the spot to assess the rescue efforts.
