Guwahati: As many as 13 states and three Union Territories (UTs) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Education in order to renovate their schools as part of the Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM-SHRI) scheme.
Along with the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalaya Sangathan, the following states have received an MoU for PM-Shri Schools: Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Gujarat, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Tripura (NVS).
The PM-SHRI Schools programme, which would enhance the chosen schools by being managed with assistance from the Central Government, State or UT Government or local organisations is believed to be a new initiative for the development of more than 14,500 schools across the country.
These institutions would serve as model schools and display the elements of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Additionally, it will provide mentoring to other schools nearby.
The PM SHRI schools will also provide top-notch instruction for kids’ cognitive growth and work to develop and nurture holistic, all-around people with the necessary 21st-century abilities.
These schools will be built as “green schools,” which will include eco-friendly features like solar panels and LED lighting, nutrition gardens with organic farming, waste management, plastic-free, water conservation and harvesting, the study of customs or practises related to environmental protection, climate change-related hackathons, and raising awareness of the need to adopt a sustainable lifestyle.
Every student’s learning results in every grade will be the emphasis of the schools. All assessments will be competency-based and focused on conceptual comprehension and knowledge application to actual circumstances.
For stage 1, the States and UTs would sign an MoU committing to work with the Center to execute the NEP in its full and outlining their support for these schools in meeting the required standards for PM SHRI schools.
In stage 2, UDISE+ data would be used to identify a pool of schools that were qualified to be chosen as PM SHRI Schools based on the required minimal benchmark.
Stage 3, comprises the challenge approach for meeting specific requirements. To meet these challenge requirements, only the eligible colleges would compete. Following a physical inspection, States, KVS, or JNV would certify that the requirements had been met.
