13th Border Districts’ Coordination Meeting Held in Bhutan to Strengthen Assam-Bhutan Relations

Guwahati, 26th September: The 13th Border Districts’ Coordination Meeting between the State Government of Assam, India, and Bhutan took place successfully in Gelephu, Bhutan, on September 24, 2024. This significant gathering aimed to bolster bilateral relations and enhance cooperation between the border districts of Assam and Bhutan.

The Assam delegation was led by Ajay Tewari, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam, Home and Political Department. The meeting included participation from senior officials from both Assam and Bhutan, emphasizing the importance of the discussions.

Key agenda items included strategies to enhance security, improve border management, and promote economic and cultural exchanges between the regions. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peaceful and cooperative relations to ensure development and prosperity in border areas through mutual support.

The meeting highlighted the necessity of regular dialogue and coordination to address cross-border challenges, such as smuggling, wildlife protection, and the welfare of residents in border areas. It also emphasized the shared cultural and historical ties between Assam and Bhutan, laying the groundwork for future collaboration.
