14 Bangladeshi Nationals held in Tripura
Guwahati: At least 14 suspected Bangladeshis were detained by Border Security force (BSF) in Sepahijala district of Tripura.
According to reports, all the accused were detained at the Madhupur area along with the Indo-Bangladesh border.
Officials said they were suspected them to be Rohingyas but later discovered to be Bangladeshi nationals who had crossed the border into India.
“The BSF men positioned at the borders apprehended them on suspicion of being Rohingyas,” said Rahul Das, Deputy Superintendent of Police in Bishalgarh.
“They were later handed over to the cops for additional investigation.” The infiltrators are being interrogated at the Madhupur police station, where they have confessed to being Bangladeshi nationals,” he added.
“As per the early investigation, all of them had crossed the borders in quest of job,” Das said, noting that the majority of those seized were kids.
It may be mentioned that police officials informed that a legal action has been initiated into the matter and further investigation is underway.
