15 Arrested in Assam for Suspected Role in ULFA-I’s IED Plot During Independence Day Celebrations

Guwahati, September 22: In a major breakthrough in the investigation of suspected IED planting incidents during this year’s Independence Day celebrations, the Assam Police, in collaboration with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), carried out coordinated raids across multiple districts, resulting in the arrest of 15 individuals, including three women. The suspects are believed to be linked to the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I), which allegedly plotted sabotage activities during the national event.

The operation followed extensive intelligence efforts, with leads gathered during an ongoing probe into ULFA-I’s sabotage plans. Arrests were made across nine districts:

  • Tinsukia: 1
  • Sadiya: 1
  • Dibrugarh: 3
  • Jorhat: 2
  • Lakhimpur: 3
  • Guwahati: 2
  • Nagaon: 1
  • Nalbari: 1
  • Tamulpur: 1

Preliminary interrogations have uncovered significant evidence linking the suspects to the IED plot, with further questioning expected to unravel the extent of ULFA-I’s conspiracy. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify other individuals involved in the network.
