156 pages chart sheet filed against DIG Rounak Ali Hazarika

Guwahati: The inquiry into the case of disproportionate assets of arrested Assam Police deputy inspector general (Border), Rounak Ali Hazarika, was completed in 109 days by the chief minister’s special vigilance cell.

The cell brought the final additional charge sheet in the matter before the court on Monday. Two other people, including his family members, have been mentioned by the vigilance cell as suspects in the investigation. The ultimate charge sheet was 156 pages long, with charges filed against the accused official under several sections of the IPC, the Prevention of Corruption Act, and the Official Secrets Act.

“After the examination was completed, it was discovered that Rounak All Hazarika had collected immovable and moveable assets that were disproportionate to his known sources of income, which was 182.19 percent.”

The prosecution sanction has been granted and obtained from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, and the order has been filed with the court,” the vigilance cell said in a statement.

Previously, information about disproportionate assets amassed by Hazarika was received at the office of the superintendent of police, CM’s special vigilance cell, Assam, and a preliminary investigation, regular investigation, and case was filed in the vigilance police station.

During an investigation, it was discovered that Hazarika had immovable and moveable assets that were out of proportion to his known sources of income from 1992 to 2021, while stationed in the Bongaigaon area.
