16th Round Of Talks Between India & China Takes Place

Guwahati: The 16th round of Corps Commander level negotiations between India and China got underway on Sunday at the Chushul-Moldo border crossing on the Indian side.

According to reports, the commander of the Fire and Fury Corps, Lt Gen A Sengupta, will lead the Indian side in negotiations over disengagement along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh.

It may be noted that this year’s March 11 was the date of the 15th round China-India Corps Commander-Level Meeting.

The two parties continued their discussions from the previous session about the resolution of pertinent issues along the LAC in the Western Sector during that meeting on January 12 of this year.

A thorough exchange of ideas took place in accordance with the directives given by the state leaders to work toward the fastest possible resolution of the outstanding issues.

A decision like this would make it easier to advance bilateral ties and restore calm along the LAC in the Western Sector.

India and China both concurred that security and stability would be maintained in the Western Sector in the interim and that communication would continue through military and diplomatic channels in an effort to find a swift and amicable solution to the outstanding issues.

Notably, the two countries have been at odds since April to May 2020 about Chinese Army violations in a number of locations, including the Finger region in the Galwan Valley, hot springs, and Kongrung Nala.

The situation deteriorated after violent encounters with Chinese soldiers in the Galwan Valley in June of that year.

Disengagement from some regions, like as the North and South Banks of Pangong Tso and Galwan, has occurred since the discussions, although some grounds of contention have persisted.
