Guwahati: Another dead body was recovered in connection with the Nimatighat-Majuli Boat accident on Saturday morning. The dead body was recovered from Biswanath district which is almost a hundred kilometers away from the accident site over the river Brahmaputra.
The deceased has been identified as Jan Borah (Indreswar) who was missing as per government records since the day the accident took place. This is the second confirmed death related to the boat capsize that took place on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at the Nimatighat to Majuli route.
Earlier on Friday, the authorities traced his bag near the Sowaguri area at the Biswanathghat in Biswanath district.
With the recovery of this dead body, the total number of deceased has now reached two confirmed while one person is still missing. The third person missing in the incident has been identified to be a doctor named Bikramjit Baruah.
It needs to be mentioned that the incident took place due to the alleged ignorance of basic safety measures in terms of boats and vessels plying on the river routes in the state. Most of the time, there are allegations that the vessels do not even maintain the simplest safety measures while operating on the route.
After the incident, the government has claimed that they will now take initiatives to reduce such incidents and have assured that a bride will now be constructed between Majuli and Jorhat. Former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has also claimed that the bridge will be constructed within four years.
