18 members make up Hockey India’s Indian Junior Men’s Team for the Sultan of Johor Cup

Guwahati: The Indian Junior Men’s Hockey Team which will compete in the Sultan of Johor Cup Malaysia 2022 has been announced by Hockey Team India. The tournament is set to start on October 22 in Johor Bahru.

In this year’s edition, which will be held after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the Indian team which finished their campaign with a Silver medal in 2019 after a hard-fought match against Great Britain, will face off against Australia, Japan, South Africa, hosts Malaysia, and defending Champions Great Britain.

Uttam Singh, who played in India’s Junior World Cup campaign at home in 2021 and made his Senior team debut at the Asia Cup 2022 held in Jakarta earlier this year, will serve as the team captain for the India Colts.The team’s vice captain has been appointed as Boby Singh Dhami.

Amir Ali, Shardanand Tiwari, Rohit, Amandeep Lakra, and Cyril Lugun are among the defenders who have been chosen for the team, along with goalkeepers Mohith HS and Ankit Malik. The midfielders Vishnukant Singh, Rajinder Singh, Ankit Pal, Poovanna CB, Amandeep, and Johnson Purthy have been selected for this renowned competition.

Captain Uttam Singh, Angad Bir Singh, Araijeet Singh Hundal, Vice Captain Boby Singh Dhami, and Sudeep Chirmako will lead the attack in the forward line.

India will start their campaign on October 22 against the hosts Malaysia, and on October 23, they will play South Africa. India will play Japan on October 25 followed by a match against Australia on October 26 after two days of break. On October 28, they will play Great Britain, and on October 29, the finals will take place.
