19 dead during immersion of Ganesh idols in Maharashtra

Guwahati: The immersion of Ganesh idols in some areas of Maharashtra resulted in as many as 19 fatalities in separate incidents. This was informed by police on Saturday.

Reports state that 14 of the 19 individuals died from drowning.

According to an official, one person drowned in Devli and three people died at Sawangi in the Wardha district.

In the Yavatmal district, two people who went to immerse idols in water perished in a pond.

He added that two people drowned in separate incidences at Supa and Belvandi, and two more died in the Jalgaon district.

According to him, one person perished in Dhule, Satara, and Solapur city in Pune’s rural area.

Four people lost their lives in a road accident in the Sakkardara area of Nagpur when Ganesh was being immersed.

In the Kolbad area of Thane, a tree fell on a Ganesh pandal, killing a 55-year-old woman and injuring four others. The occurrence took place on Friday.

According to another official, “at least 11 parade participants were hurt after coming into contact with the cable. There are four youngsters among the injured.

While some events involving law and order were also recorded in several areas of Maharashtra during the immersion, a brawl broke out in the Ahmednagar district between supporters of the state’s chief minister, Eknath Shinde, and Shiv Sena head, Uddhav Thackeray.

A group of individuals also flung stones at the mayor’s house during the immersion parade in Jalgaon.

It should be noted that the 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival, which began on August 31 and ended on Friday, was observed.
