Guwahati: The state’s first and largest solar power plant was originally inaugurated by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday in the Udalguri district’s Lalpul.

The power plant was built under the “Build, Own, Operate” approach in accordance with the Assam Solar Energy Policy, 2017 by Azure Power, a top provider of sustainable energy solutions and a source of renewable energy in India.

The chief minister launched the 90 MW solar power project at a special ceremony co-hosted by Azure Power and Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL).

Taking to twitter, CM Sarma said, “I compliment @apdclsocial and @AzurePowerSolar for successfully setting up the 25-MW solar plant project. In our journey towards inclusive growth & development, we are ensuring environment preservation by initiating necessary measures.”

According to the CEO of Azure Power, Harsh Shah, the APDCL would receive the power produced by the facility through a long-term PPA of 25 years.

The project spreads across four districts of Assam namely, Udalguri, Boko, Nagaon, and Cachar.

The commissioning of our 90 MW solar power plant—the biggest in Assam—is proof of our outstanding project development and execution abilities, according to Shah. The initiative also exemplifies the state’s dedication to sustainable development by encouraging the provision of clean, usable, affordable, and equitable solar energy. Our project will help in building a self-sustaining ecosystem by giving local residents jobs, possibilities for skill development, and income opportunities in addition to helping the state reach its sustainability goals.

Rakesh Kumar, MD of the APDCL said, “Our deepest gratitude to the honourable chief minister of Assam, APDCL, and other local stakeholders for their cooperation and support. It is commendable that Azure Power is contributing to Assam’s transition to clean and renewable energy. APDCL is dedicated to providing all of its esteemed customers with power that is uninterrupted, dependable, economical, safe, and of high quality.
