2 Bangladeshis Held For Flying Drone Near Victoria Memorial In Kolkata
Guwahati: Two citizens of Bangladesh were detained in Kolkata for reportedly deploying a drone to take pictures of the Victoria Memorial Hall without authorization, police said on Friday.
Police informed that the two were held on Wednesday for deploying a drone to take pictures of the Victoria Memorial and its surroundings without first getting authorization from the appropriate authorities.
They were recognised as Rajshahi residents after the Central Industrial Protection Force (CISF), which is in charge of the museum’s security, lodged a complaint at the Hastings Police Station.
Officials claimed that when questioned, the two Bangladeshis admitted that they had not obtained prior authorization to use the drone, an unarmed aerial vehicle.
According to the police, “The suspects were operating the drone equipped with cameras from the north gate of the Victoria Memorial. They were documenting the memorial and its surroundings with photography.
They were detained by the police until August 23, according to the authorities.
It should be noted that Victoria Memorial Hall is close to Fort William, the location of the Eastern Command of the Army.
“They broke the law regarding aircraft. The Victoria Memorial Hall is a no-drone zone and is located in a defence area, thus flying drones there and nearby is banned. Any such unmanned aerial aircraft requires special authorization to operate. We are speaking with them, the cops added.
