2 Dead after Goods Train Derails in Odisha’s Jajpur, CM Announces Compensation for Victims

Guwahati: At least two people were killed after a goods-moving train derailed at Korai Station in the Jajpur district of Odisha.

The structure housing the railroad station was also damaged by the catastrophe which occurred approximately 6:44 am.

Rescue teams and railroad officials rushed to the scene after the tragedy. There is a rescue operation going on right now.

The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Khurda Road and other Branch officers rushed to the scene of the accident to provide assistance. Officials have been alerted that both rail lines are shut.

However, due to the disaster some trains have been cancelled and some have been rerouted.

Numerous other trains have also been cancelled including the Howrah-Bhubaneswar Janshatabdi Express, Shalimar-Puri Express, Shalimar-Hyderabad Express, Cuttack-Bhadrak-Cuttack Passenger Special and Bhubaneswar-Balasore Passenger Special.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed his sympathies on the loss of two lives in the accident.

According to the chief minister, the next of kin of the deceased would receive ex-gratia payments of Rs 2 lakh each.

Additionally, Naveen Patnaik gave the administration instructions to speed up the rescue efforts and give the injured people the right care.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Railways also announced an ex-gratia to the unlucky accident victims.

It has been declared that each deceased person’s families will receive Rs. 5 lakhs, each individual who suffered severe injuries.

The families of the deceased will receive Rs 5 lakhs, while those who suffered severe injuries would receive Rs 1 lakh each and those who had lesser injuries will receive Rs 25,000 each.
