2 Govt Officials Held for Alleged Corruption

Guwahati: Continuing its crusade against corruption, Assam’s police department has netted yet another big fish.

This time, two government officials have been arrested for their alleged involvement in corruption from Salbari in Baksa district of Assam.

The arrested government officials are a Block Development Officer (BDO) and a junior engineer.

The BDO has been identified as Mozammel Hussain and the engineer is Wajed Ali Ahmed.

Wajed is currently posted as the Barigog Forest Division’s assistant engineer and Hussain has retired.

The duo was charged with running the 2015 Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) housing scam.

According to reports, 23 homes in the Gowardhan block were allegedly granted to other persons by the accused under the PMAY programme.

The officials were being helped by the chairman of VCDC named Akhtar Hussain Talukdar who was arrested by the police in October.
