2 Injured as iron plates fell from under-construction flyover in Guwahati
Guwahati, 13 June: As if the incidents of burst of water pipes were not enough, two persons were injured after a huge iron plates fell on people’s pits from the under-construction flyover in Maligaon.
One of the injured is struggling for life in a nearby hospital.
The incident has triggered a heated situation in Maligaon. The incident reportedly took place in front of Pragjyotish Cinema Hall.
According to reports, two people were critically injured who are said to be labourers involved in construction work. A vehicle was also badly damaged in the accident. Both the injured have been shifted to hospital in a critical condition.
Reportedly, two labours who were injured in the tragic incident have been identified as Jitu Das and Nayan Das. Meanwhile, Jitu Das is currently on a ventilator.
The incident has ignited a debate about the state of development projects and the negligence surrounding them.
Recently, a video that showed welding sparks falling directly onto moving vehicles appeared raising severe concerns about the lack of basic safety standards.
Gauravv Somani, a Congress leader, took to Twitter to express his outrage at the lack of safety protocols in Guwahati. His tweet read, “Can anyone justify such construction work without any safety protocol being followed? Had any vehicle carrying inflammable substance or plastic/cotton or a two-wheeler been passing, it could have been highly dangerous. Guwahati is now at the mercy of fate!”
