2 Men From Assam Apprehended with Elephant Tusks at New Jalpaiguri Railway Station

Guwahati, 11th December: In a significant operation, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Siliguri unit successfully apprehended two smugglers and seized a cache of Asiatic elephant tusks from their possession. The seizure, weighing approximately 7.5 kg, took place at the New Jalpaiguri railway station from the Rajdhani Express.

Acting on specific intelligence, officers from the DRI Siliguri Unit intercepted two individuals, identified as Suleman Kha and Ratan Goyala, residents of Assam’s Nagaon, on a Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express. The tusks, discovered in their possession, were intended for smuggling to Nepal through the Indo-Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh.

The seized items include a conically shaped and two cylindrical-shaped cut-piece elephant tusks, revealing the intricate nature of the illicit operation thwarted by the vigilant efforts of the DRI Siliguri unit.
