2 Persons Arrested under section 153A after Massive Protests at Jama Masjid

Guwahati: Two people have been arrested in connection with the Jama Masjid demonstration on Friday which was held in response to suspended BJP spokeswoman Nupur Sharma and expelled leader Naveen Jindal’s controversial remarks about Prophet Muhammad.

Promoting animosity between various groups on the basis of religion, race, place of birth, domicile, language, etc., and doing acts injurious to the maintenance of harmony are charged under Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Earlier on Friday, a large protest erupted over alleged incendiary remarks made by Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal after Friday prayers at the Jama Masjid.

On Friday, a large protest took place at Delhi’s Jama Masjid in response to provocative remarks made by suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma and expelled BJP leader Naveen Jindal.

Nupur Sharma’s anti-minority remarks sparked the uproar. Some Gulf countries have expressed their displeasure.
