20 killed as earthquake of magnitude 5.6 strikes Indonesia

Guwahati: In a tragic incident, as many as 20 people and around 300 others were injured after an earthquake of 5.6 magnitude hit Indonesia‘s western province of West Java on Monday.

The Indonesian city of Jakarta felt the quake’s shocks as well.

According to BMKG, the epicentre was on land in Cianjur, West Java, at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles), and a tsunami was not expected.

The USGS estimates that the earthquake, which happened on Monday at 11:51:10 (UTC+05:30), was 10.0 kilometres deep.

6.840 degrees south latitude and 107.107 degrees east longitude were found to be the locations of the epicentre.
