25 CNG stations in Assam by March of this year

Guwahati: At least 25 CNG stations would be installed by March in Assam.

While speaking to the media, this was informed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma debuted 100 CNG buses throughout the state on January 1 as a New Year’s gift to the region. The Chief Minister remarked that the introduction of the CNG buses will be a present for the state for the New Year. He said that this is for the first time that such initiatives have been launched in the state of Assam.

He claimed that as a result the public transportation system in Guwahati will change. The Guwahati Smart City Project’s CNG bus project will be carried out by ASTC.

“ASTC will stop operating diesel-run city buses. Our goal is to completely replace diesel-run buses with electric and CNG buses in Guwahati by the day this government completes one year,” CM Sarma said. Two filling stations have been set up to supply CNG to the new buses which will operate in phases.

The ISBT in Betkuchi has one of the two fueling stations, and Ulubari has the other.

The buses will be put into service in order to lessen pollution and save money on significantly more expensive fuel.

In addition, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that within a year of taking office, his administration would replace all city buses with CNG and electric vehicles. He said that the Assam government is considering replacing Guwahati’s diesel-powered city buses with ones that run on electricity and CNG (Compressed Natural Gas).
