26 students from Meghalaya stranded in flash flood-hit Sikkim successfully evacuated
Northeast Desk, 7th October: The authorities in Sikkim have organized a fleet of five vehicles to rescue 26 students from Meghalaya who were stranded in Majitar, Sikkim due to severe flash floods. They are currently en route to Siliguri, with an expected arrival time of around 11 pm tonight.
It has been reported that a bus has been arranged to transport these students from Siliguri to Shillong later tonight. This bus has already passed through Assam’s Kokrajhar and is continuing its journey towards Shillong.
In response to the crisis, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has instructed the district administration to provide comprehensive support for the rehabilitation of displaced families. The state government’s approach focuses on rescue, evacuation, and rehabilitation, with a special emphasis on ensuring the safety and well-being of children, women, and senior citizens throughout these operations.
The Chief Minister has also shared that ongoing rescue efforts are in progress, with dedicated relief teams working diligently to facilitate the return of displaced families to a state of normalcy.
