2nd Chalou Football Tournament Ends in Glory for Central High School; Celebrates Youth and Culture in Manipur

Imphal: The 2nd Chalou Football Tournament concluded with resounding cheers and community pride at the Chalou Football Ground in Manipur, where Central High School clinched the title with a 4–1 win over Nongren FC in a high-octane final match.

Held from June 21 to July 4, the 9-a-side tournament drew 34 teams from across Imphal East district, turning the ground into a vibrant arena of sportsmanship, talent, and community celebration. Over two weeks, local football fans were treated to thrilling games, stunning goals, and spirited performances by youth players determined to shine on the field.

In the finale, Central High School’s dominance was evident as they secured the championship, much to the delight of their supporters. Kh Azlan of Nongren FC was named Best Player, while Central High School’s Tongbran Basan and Monish bagged the Best Goalkeeper and Top Scorer titles respectively—Monish netting 4 goals in total.

The closing ceremony was a cultural spectacle, featuring traditional Manipuri songs and dances that paid homage to the region’s rich heritage. The festive atmosphere underscored the tournament’s role not just as a sporting event but also as a celebration of unity and youth empowerment.

Organised by Chalou Football Club with support from the Indian Army under Operation Sadbhavna, the event received high praise from locals and dignitaries alike. The General Officer Commanding (GOC), Red Shield Division, graced the occasion as Chief Guest, reaffirming the Army’s commitment to youth development and social harmony.

“The Red Shield Division will continue to support sports, education, and youth development in Manipur,” the GOC stated, applauding the organisers and participants for their efforts.

As the trophy was lifted and fireworks lit up the sky, the 2nd Chalou Football Tournament left behind more than just a winner—it fostered hope, unity, and pride in Manipur’s enduring love for football.
