Guwahati: Three men who were accused of rape and murder of two girls last year in Kokrajhar awarded death sentence by the fast-track court in Assam.
The accused were identified as accused Muzamil, Najibul and Farizul.
According to reports, the trio sentenced death by special judge C Chaturvedi of Kokrajhar fast-track court on Friday.
Following the murder of the two girls the police-initiated investigation into the matter where the three accused were found guilty and arrested by police on June 14, 2021 in the case.
It may be mentioned the girls were reportedly kidnapped by a gang of youth and later the girls were allegedly gang raped and murdered. The youths further hanged them to a tree,
The incident had led to a huge outcry, and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had ordered a probe by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the incident.
