3 Killed, 13 Others Feared Dead in Flash Floods & Landslide in Himachal

Guwahati: Six persons were killed and 13 others were thought dead in separate incidences of flash flood and landslide brought on by torrential rains in Himachal Pradesh on Saturday.

According to officials, 22 individuals who were left trapped after a flash flood in the state’s Hamirpur region were successfully rescued.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur offered his sympathies for the fatalities and said that the administration was conducting rescue efforts in the affected districts on a war footing.

According to authorities, a landslide brought on by rainfall in the Chamba district claimed the lives of three persons after their home fell.

According to the Chamba district emergency operation centre (DEOC), a home fell at Banet village in Chowari tehsil about 4.30 am as a result of a landslide, killing three persons, according to an NDTV report.

Authorities reported that a girl was killed in Mandi and that 13 other people were thought dead after heavy rains caused a landslide and flash flood.

On Friday night, a girl’s body was found approximately half a kilometre from her home in Baghi Nullah on the Mandi-Katola-Prashar Road, while five other members of her family were swept away, according to state disaster management department officials.

Following a cloud burst, several families abandoned their homes in the Baghi to Old Katola neighbourhoods and sought safety elsewhere, the department noted.

A landslide at Kashan village in the Gohar development block is also thought to have buried eight members of another family under their home’s wreckage, the department reported.

But, it claimed, the bodies have not yet been found.

According to the report, numerous roads in the Mandi district are also closed as a result of multiple landslides and flash floods.

As water invaded residents’ homes and businesses in Balh, Sadar, Thunag, Mandi, and Lamathach, several vehicles were damaged, and some villagers were trapped inside their homes, according to officials.

Due to the continued, nonstop rain, all schools in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh will be closed today, according to a senior administrative official.

Residents claimed that several cars that were parked along the road were damaged and that they were still confined to their homes.

According to officials, a “kacha” house fell in Kangra, killing a nine-year-old child.
