Guwahati: A government school teacher was arrested for allegedly raping a woman in Dhemaji district of Assam on Friday night.
The incident took place in Bhebeli Gaon Village in Sissibargaon.
Reportedly, the arrested teacher was identified as Dharmeshwar Saikia, the headmaster of a primary school in Bhebeli.
According to reports, Saikia allegedly took advantage of the darkness and raped a woman near his house.
Meanwhile, the victim’s sister-in-law witnessed the incident and called for help, prompting neighbours to arrive and thrash the notorious headmaster before handing him over to Sissibargaon police.
However, the police filed a case (146/2022) at Silapathar Police Station under sections 448 and 376 of the Indian Penal Code.
