4.4 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Assam
After the Monday morning earthquake in Sonitpur district of Assam, tremors of another earthquake was felt in several areas of Guwahati in less than 24 hours.
Sonitpur district was affected by an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4, according to the National Centre for Seismology.
The earthquake struck at 8.03 am today morning with a depth of 15km and the tremors of the earthquake were felt in Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, and parts of India earlier this morning.
The NCS announced on Twitter that a 4.4-magnitude earthquake had occurred in Sonitpur, Assam, at 8:03:35 IST on May 29, 2023, at latitude and longitude 26.68 and 92.35.
It should be noted that Guwahati has experienced vibrations from a second earthquake in less than 24 hours.
A 3.6-magnitude earthquake struck Meghalaya’s West Khasi Hills district on Sunday afternoon. A 10 km deep earthquake occurred at roughly 2.58 pm.
In the late afternoon, Guwahati city was shaken by the earthquake’s tremors.
