46 migrants found dead inside truck in Texas

Guwahati: Around 46 people were found dead inside a tractor-trailer on Monday in San Antonio, Texas.

According to a source close to the inquiry, San Antonio’s WOAI TV said that the truck was recovered next to railroad tracks in the city’s Southwest Side neighbourhood and that the dead were thought to be migrants.

According to the reports, the truck was recovered adjacent to railroad tracks in a secluded place on the southern edge of the city.

At least 46 people were recovered dead inside the truck, Texas Governor Greg Abbott acknowledged the horrific tragedy in a tweet, adding, “These deaths are Biden’s fault. His deadly open border policies have led to them.”

KSAT television said that 16 survivors had been transported to several local hospitals, as reported by ANI, citing unnamed San Antonio police sources.

The San Antonio police have not yet made any public remarks.

No information regarding the potential causes of the deaths has been provided, although Sky News noted that temperatures in San Antonio, which is around 160 miles (250 km) from the Mexican border, reached a high of 103F (39.4C) on Monday with significant humidity.

The deceased’s nationalities are unclear, according to Mexico’s secretary of foreign affairs, who also stated that a consul is en route to the area.

“Tragedy in Texas. Reportedly suffocated in trailer box,” he wrote on Twitter. Despite not officially confirming anything, San Antonio Police notified Sky Press that a news conference would be conducted.

Archbishop Gustavo, a Catholic priest in San Antonio lamented the tragedy so soon after the Uvalde shooting, writing on Twitter, “Lord have mercy on them. They hoped for a better life. Lord after Uvalde and now this, help us! We need you! So many people suffering. God, God, God.”
