5.4 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Nepal, Tremors Felt in Delhi

Guwahati: A 5.4 magnitude earthquake occurred in Nepal on Saturday night.

Vibrations from an earthquake were felt throughout Delhi-NCR at around 8 pm.

The National Center for Seismology (NCS) said an earthquake of magnitude 5.4 occurred in Nepal, at around 7:57 pm. “The depth of the earthquake was 10 km below the ground,” it said.

Nepal had been shaken by an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 on the Richter scale in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to the NCS, the earthquake struck Nepal at a depth of 10 kilometres at roughly 1:57 am. The earthquakes were also felt in New Delhi, the capital of India, and the areas around it.

The earthquake on Wednesday was the country of Nepal’s second within a 24-hour period.

According to NCS, an earthquake of a magnitude of 4.5 also occurred in Nepal on Tuesday morning.

On October 19, there was a 5.1-magnitude earthquake that struck close to Kathmandu. The earthquake, according to NCS, happened 53 kilometres east of Kathmandu at about 2:52 pm. The earthquake occurred 10 kilometres below the surface of the earth.

According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre (NEMRC), a 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck on July 31 at 8:13 am IST, 147 kilometres east of Kathmandu, near Martim Birta in the Khotang district.

A powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.8 that occurred in 2015 between Kathmandu and Pokhara rocked central Nepal.

8,964 people are thought to have died and close to 22,000 injured, according to estimates.
