5 J&K Leaders Quit Congress After Ghulam Nabi Azad’s Resignation
Guwahati: Five additional Jammu and Kashmir-based Congress officials left the organisation on Friday after Ghulam Nabi Azad announced his resignation, blaming Rahul Gandhi for undermining the party’s consultation procedure.
According to reports, Ghulam Mohammad Saroori, Haji Abdul Rashid, Mohammad Amin Bhatt, Gulzar Ahmad Wani, Chaudhary Akram Mohammad, and Salman Nizami, leaders of the Jammu and Kashmir Congress, have resigned from the party’s primary membership in favour of Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Ahead of organisational elections, Ghulam Nabi Azad announced his resignation from the party earlier today. He accused the leadership of “fraud” against the party by holding “fake” internal elections.
Azad, who specifically mentioned Rahul Gandhi in his scathing letter, claimed that a “remote control model” had destroyed the institutional integrity of the Congress and claimed that either Rahul Gandhi or even security guards and PAs make decisions.
“All senior and experienced leaders were side-lined and the new coterie of inexperienced sycophants started running the affairs of the party,” he alleged.
Rahul Gandhi tearing up a government ordinance in front of the media during the UPA administration was another topic brought up by the former Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha. He called it as one of the most obvious displays of immaturity.
“This childish behaviour completely subverted the authority of the prime minister and the Government of India. This one single action more than anything else contributed significantly to the defeat of the UPA government in 2014,” he added.
