5 Rohingya kids escape Observation Home in Silchar

Guwahati: Five Rohingya children have escaped from an observation home at Silchar in Cachar district of Assam.

The government-run child observation home in Meherpur of Silchar was hosting five Rohingya childrens.

According to reports, two local children staying at the centre and the minors fled after breaking through the observation home’s wall while taking advantage of the flood situation in Silchar. The incident took place on July 1.

It may be mentioned that the Silchar police detained 26 Rohingyas on May 29, including eight women, six men, and twelve children. The team arrived in Guwahati’s Kamakhya station by train on May 28 from Delhi before travelling by road in two Innova vehicles to Silchar where they arrived the following morning.

The police had placed the 26 Rohingyas who were minors in an observation home while keeping the others in the Silchar Central Jail.
