50 Acres of Poppy Fields Razed in Manipur’s Ukhrul District

Ukhrul, Manipur: In a decisive blow against the illicit drug trade, a joint operation involving Ukhrul police, 6 MR, the forest department, 18 Assam Rifles, and the district administration successfully destroyed 50 acres of poppy cultivation in the Khamasom Hill Ranges on Wednesday.

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh lauded the achievement via his official X account, highlighting that this recent operation brings the total area of poppy fields eradicated in the past few days to a significant 160 acres.

The security forces also dismantled nine huts found within the poppy fields, further disrupting the operations of those involved in the illicit cultivation.

An FIR has been registered to investigate the matter thoroughly and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“Our unwavering commitment to ridding the state of the scourge of drugs remains resolute,” Chief Minister Singh declared.

This operation follows a previous joint operation that successfully destroyed 110 acres of illegal poppy plantation in the same region. In that operation, eight huts associated with the poppy cultivation were also burned down.

The Manipur police have been actively engaged in a sustained campaign against poppy cultivation, demonstrating a firm resolve to combat this illicit activity and safeguard the well-being of the state’s citizens.
