584 Insurgents Join Mainstream Following Tripura Peace Accord
Northeast Desk, 24th September: In a significant move towards peace and development, around 584 cadres from the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) laid down their arms in a ceremony held at the 7th Battalion of the Tripura State Rifles, Jampuijala, following a peace accord signed between the Government of India, the Government of Tripura, and the insurgent groups.
Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha presided over the event, highlighting the importance of the peace accord in fostering development in the Northeast. He stated, “When Narendra Modi took charge as Prime Minister, he always emphasized that the development of the country is not possible without developing the Northeast. We can see that the Northeast, which was once grappling with terrorism, is now almost free from it, as around 12 peace accords have been signed, three of which are from Tripura.”
Dr. Saha noted that peace is essential for development, declaring, “From today, we can say that Tripura is now free from terrorism. The State and Central governments have implemented a series of schemes for the development of the Janajati people.” He welcomed those who had faced difficulties and chose to join the mainstream, emphasizing that problems cannot be solved through envy.
The event was attended by notable officials, including Tripura DGP Amitabh Ranjan, DGP (Intelligence) Anurag, and Chief Secretary JK Sinha, marking a pivotal step in ensuring lasting peace and stability in the region.
