6,415 Quintals of PDS Rice Seized by BIEO From 2 Districts of Assam

Guwahati: A massive amount of illegally stored Public Distribution System (PDS) rice has been seized by the Bureau of Investigation Economic Offences (BIEO) from Assam’s Dibrugarh and Tinsukia district on Tuesday.

A total sum of 6,415 quintals of rice was seized from the two districts.

In the first operation, the BIEO seized 4,450 quintals of rice from the Ms Larua Cooperative Society in Dibrugarh.

Later, a raid was conducted at the Tipuk Cooperative Society in Tinsukia and 1,965 quintals of rice were taken.

The raid was carried out following evidence concerning extensive anomalies in the delivery of subsidised rice.

Officials informed that they are now conducting raids at many more locations related to the issue.
