7 electric bikes burned at Maharashtra’s Pune showroom due to suspected overcharging

Guwahati: As many as seven electric motorcycles in a showroom in Pune city of Maharashtra caught fire on Monday while charging and consumed the entire space, officials of the fire brigade informed.

According to them, nobody was injured in the incident that happened last night at the showroom in Pune’s Gangadham area.

Prima facie it looked like the fire broke out due to a short circuit while the bikes were put to charge. Officials stated that there is a good probability that overcharging was to blame, but the precise cause will become clear only after a thorough examination.

An official stated that they got a report about 8 pm yesterday and raced to the scene where they recovered seven bikes that were damaged beyond repair.

A police representative from the Market Yard police station said that once the fire department’s report is received, the precise cause of the incident will be revealed.

It may be noted that in March of this year, an Ola electric scooter caught fire in Pune. The business recalled 1,441 electric scooters for examination in response to that occurrence and numerous others of a similar nature.

Union minister Nitin Gadkari stated in April that the government would take the appropriate action against defaulting companies after reviewing the report of the expert panel set up to look into the problem of more electric two-wheelers catching fire.
