7 Endangered Species of Monkey Rescued, 1 Arrested
Guwahati: As many as seven endangered species of black monkey were rescued in Hailakandi district of Assam on Monday.
They were found by the police inside a truck with the bearing registration number NL 01 AD 4984.
They were found as the police were performing their routine duties at the Jamira checkpoint.
According to reports, the truck was intercepted in Hailakandi while heading towards Meghalaya from Mizoram.
The rescued monkeys were handed over to the forest department.
It is suspected that the international market value of the endangered monkey is worth crores.
Meanwhile, driver of the truck have been arrested by the police.
The arrestee identified as Rakesh Deb Barma.
Further investigation underway.
