Prior to it, CM Sarma was seen hoisting the National Flag at Shraddhanjali Kanan in Guwahati’s Zoo Road neighbourhood.
An Indian Army chopper also dropped flower petals from the sky onto the ground, creating a stunning picture.
Due to the Covid-19 scenario, spectator stands at the Khanapara field were understandably vacant, although the programmes were organised according to rigorous rules.
Meanwhile, the National Flag was flown at various locations throughout the city to commemorate the occasion. The state BJP president Bhabesh Kalita raised the flag at the party’s headquarters.
