78 Students from Assam Rescued Amid Bangladesh Protests

Guwahati, 20th July: Seventy-eight students from Assam were safely evacuated from Bangladesh via Meghalaya’s Dawki Integrated Check Post on July 19 amid escalating violent protests against job quotas in the country.

The students were successfully brought back to India through the Dawki border checkpoint following days of intensifying unrest. Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner of Karimganj reported that 22 students from Assam arrived in India through the Sutarkandi border in Karimganj on July 19, with four more crossing the border on July 20.

“There is no impact on the border areas due to the Bangladesh unrest. An Additional Commissioner and a Deputy Superintendent of Police have been appointed to manage the situation,” the Karimganj DC stated.

The violent clashes between student protestors and police in Bangladesh have resulted in at least 105 deaths, leading authorities to impose a nationwide curfew. The situation has caused significant concern, with authorities in Bangladesh enforcing strict measures to curb the unrest.
