79 Candidates Withdraw Nominations Ahead of Nagaland ULB Election

Northeast Desk, 19th June: Ahead of the upcoming Urban Local Body (ULB) election in Nagaland, significant developments have unfolded as 79 candidates opted to withdraw their nominations on the final day, as confirmed by an official from the State Election Commission (SEC). This decision has reshaped the candidate landscape for the polls scheduled across 3 municipal councils and 36 town councils, encompassing Eastern Nagaland regions.

Initially, a total of 669 candidates had submitted their nomination papers, including 238 female candidates, signaling robust participation and competition in the electoral process. With the withdrawal of candidates, adjustments have been made to the candidate roster, setting the stage for heightened competition among contenders vying for crucial roles in local governance.

The SEC remains committed to ensuring a seamless and impartial election process, despite the adjustments necessitated by the withdrawals. This election holds significant importance as it will determine local governance structures and drive community development initiatives across Nagaland for the foreseeable future.

As preparations continue, the focus remains on conducting a fair and transparent election that reflects the aspirations of the electorate and contributes to the overall progress of urban governance in Nagaland.
