8 Arrested By CM Vigilance Cell Sent To 5 Days Custody in GMC Scam
Guwahati: All eight people arrested in connection with the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) corruption case were handed to the Chief Minister’s Vigilance Cell on Friday for a period of five days.
Eight accused were arrested by investigators from the CM Vigilance Cell in Assam for their alleged participation in the major GMC scam in Guwahati.
The arrested individuals were identified as GMC OSD Babulal Sharma, cleanliness officer Aafis Ahmed and Executive Engineers Shankar Medhi, Ramakant Saikia, Elleen Begum, Chittaranjan Dutta, and Hiranya Barman.
They also arrested Director of Dinsan Global Venture, Dinesh Jaiswal in connection with the incident.
Officials said that individuals who were arrested had a long history of extorting money by presenting false bills. They would print fictitious money under the pretence of sludge extraction.
Officers carried out an operation during which the corrupt officials were arrested after learning of the illicit actions.
Meanwhile, officials informed that two of the accused are on the run. They have been identified as Simantajyoti Barman and Tashdiqur Rahman.
