Guwahati: Altogether eight persons were arrested for allegedly extorting money from local businesses at the weekly market in Dakhingaon in the Kahilipara area of Guwahati on Saturday.
According to reports, the accused attempted to extort money from a number of local vendors and businesses.
The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has received a complaint from the dealers and business owners.
An FIR numbered 1172 was also filed in connection with the matter at the Dispur police station.
The arrestee identified as Abdul Mannar, Uin Singh, Haneef Ali, Khalilullah, Ansarul Alam, Mehboob Sheikh, Mumtaj Alam, and Diganta Teron.
Reportedly, police officials arrested them after receiving the complaint.
It needs to be mentioned that all of the defendants were brought before the court and then taken into police custody.
