8 Killed, 2 Injured As Car Falls into Roadside Ditch in Bihar’s Purnea
Guwahati: At least eight people were killed and two more were injured after the SUV they were riding in lost control and crashed into a roadside ditch in Bihar’s Purnea district on Saturday.
The local government is attempting to determine the identity of the dead.
The accident occurred about 3am on Saturday when the car passengers were driving to Nania village in Kishanganj district after attending a ’tilak’ ceremony (wedding’s first function) in Tarabadi of Purnea district.
Baisi Sub-divisional Magistrate Kumari Toushi said, “The driver lost control of the vehicle and it crashed into a water-filled ditch opposite the Purnea-Kishanganj State Highway near Kanjia Middle School.”
The bodies of eight people who died on the spot were transferred for post-mortem testing, while the two injured were taken to a local hospital and are said to be in stable condition.
According to Kanjia Panchayat Mukhiya Samrendra Ghosh, all of the deceased are men.
Circle Officer Raj Shekhar said, “The local authorities would verify their identify and the actual cause of the tragedy as soon as possible.”
