8th case of monkeypox detected in India

Guwahati: Another case of monkeypox has been recorded in Delhi, bringing the country’s total to eight cases. The virus has already been found in Kerala, where this is the fifth instance in the state.

A national task force has been established to keep an eye on the advancement of diagnostics and vaccines, according to Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, who stated this on Tuesday.

Five of the eight cases of the disease that have been found in India so far had a history of travel outside, according to Mr. Mandaviya in the Rajya Sabha.

A 35-year-old foreigner in Delhi with no recent history of travel tested positive for monkeypox today, official sources said. The man had been admitted to the government-run LNJP Hospital yesterday.

While the first case in India was reported from Kerala on July 14, the minister stated that guidelines on surveillance mechanisms, contact tracing, and how to collect samples from suspected cases and send them to accredited laboratories for testing had been given to all states on May 1, 2022, not just for international airports.

The Delhi government has requested that three private hospitals build isolation areas for cases of monkeypox. Five rooms must be set aside by hospitals for confirmed cases of monkeypox and an additional five for suspected cases.

The monkeypox virus, which is a member of the same virus family as the smallpox virus, is what causes the zoonotic condition known as monkeypox. The WHO reports that although instances have recently been reported from non-endemic countries as well, the disease is endemic in places like West and Central Africa.

Fever, rash, and swollen lymph nodes are the classic symptoms of monkeypox, which can also result in a variety of medical consequences. The condition often has a two- to four-week symptom duration and is self-limiting.
