95% of Tripura’s ‘Lakhpati Didi’ Target Achieved, Says CM Manik Saha
Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on August 28 announced that nearly 95 per cent of the state’s targeted women under the ambitious ‘Lakhpati Didi’ initiative have already achieved the milestone, underscoring the success of women-led self-help groups and integrated farming models in driving rural transformation.
Speaking at the National Workshop on Integrated Farming Clusters (IFC) for North Eastern States in Agartala, Saha said that 1,08,281 women out of the targeted 1.14 lakh have become ‘Lakhpati Didis’. He credited the determination of women, strong community support and government-backed interventions for this remarkable achievement.
Highlighting the pivotal role of agriculture, the chief minister said the IFC approach under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihood Mission has been designed to strengthen women’s livelihoods through diversified and intensified farming practices. Tripura has already launched activities for 80 Integrated Farming Clusters with an investment of Rs 32 crore, inaugurated earlier this month.
Saha informed that the state now has 4.85 lakh women associated with 54,113 self-help groups, 2,470 village organisations and 173 cluster-level federations. To boost their economic activities, 2,628 producer groups and 118 non-farm collectives have been formed, supported by Rs 1,677 crore in bank loans and Rs 787 crore in revolving and community investment funds.
“Our women are now engaged in piggery, pottery, poultry, fisheries, micro-enterprises, catering, group-based ventures and agro-ecological practices, making rural Tripura vibrant and self-reliant,” Saha said, adding that the initiative has transformed women into key drivers of growth.
He further noted that the state’s progress aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of North-East as ‘Ashtalakshmi’, with Tripura focusing on infrastructure, connectivity and livelihood generation to reshape its socio-economic landscape.
