Japanese Delegation Arrives in Guwahati for Three-Day Visit

Guwahati: A 45-member Japanese delegation, led by House of Representatives Speaker Nukaga Fukushiro, arrived in Guwahati on the evening of May 3, for a three-day visit to Assam.

The delegation was welcomed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who expressed his honor at hosting the esteemed guests. “I consider it my honour to welcome the Hon’ble Speaker and his delegation to our beautiful state,” Sarma said.

Sarma highlighted that the visit will encourage Japanese companies to look at Assam and other North Eastern states for enhanced collaboration. He apprised Fukushiro of the business ecosystem in the state and emphasized that the visit will give a new momentum to Assam’s strategic partnership with Japan through collaborative initiatives under Advantage Assam 2.0.

The Chief Minister also conveyed Assam’s readiness to start a Japanese Language and Testing Centre at ASEAN One Technical Centre at Amingaon in Kamrup district. This initiative aims to provide employment opportunities for the state’s youth in Japan, following Sarma’s visit to Japan in February.

Chief Secretary Ravi Kota gave a detailed presentation showcasing the business landscape of Assam and potential areas for collaboration. He highlighted opportunities ranging from industries, tourism, skill development, employment, health, and family welfare. The Japanese delegation attended a cultural program hosted in their honor, which was attended by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya among others.

During their visit, the delegation is scheduled to visit the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati, and the Tata Semiconductor and Testing Facility at Jagiroad on Sunday. They will also visit projects being implemented with Japanese aid before leaving on Monday. The visit aims to strengthen ties between Assam and Japan and explore new avenues for cooperation.
