BJP Dominates Early Trends in Assam Panchayat Polls, AGP Holds Ground in Upper Assam

Guwahati: As of 1 PM, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is firmly in control of the ongoing Assam Panchayat elections, emerging as the frontrunner in both Zila Parishad Constituency (ZPC) and Anchalik Panchayat (AP) levels. The vote counting, which began early this morning across the state, has shown a consistent pattern of BJP dominance, with the party making inroads in nearly every district.

According to the latest figures, the BJP is leading in 52 ZPC seats, followed by its ally, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), with 10 seats. Congress, once a major player in rural Assam, is currently trailing with leads in only five ZPC segments. Other smaller parties and independents have managed just one seat, while newer outfits like Raijor Dal and AIUDF are yet to open their account at the district council level.

At the Anchalik Panchayat level, the BJP continues its impressive performance, leading in 351 seats. AGP has shown particular strength in Upper Assam, holding 41 leads, while Congress is behind with 35. AIUDF has secured two leads, and independents or others account for 17. Both Raijor Dal and the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), despite visible grassroots campaigning, have not yet registered any substantial gains.

The counting process is continuing at multiple centers under tight security and administrative oversight, ensuring smooth proceedings. With more rounds yet to be completed, the final tally could still shift slightly, but early indications suggest the BJP is on course for a sweeping victory in Assam’s three-tier Panchayati Raj system.
