Assam: Dhubri Zila Parishad Polls Yield Fragmented Results Across Legislative Assemblies
Guwahati: The recent Zila Parishad elections in Dhubri district have culminated in a mosaic of political outcomes, reflecting the region’s diverse electoral preferences. Congress has emerged with significant victories in the Bilasipara Legislative Assembly, with Regina Ahmed and Firdousi Rahman securing wins in Folimari and Lakhiganj Zila Parishads respectively.
However, the BJP demonstrated its strength in the same region, as Putul Chandra Barman and Buddh Deb triumphed in Salkocha and No. 4 Raniganj Zila Parishads, showcasing a divided electorate within Bilasipara.
The Birsing Jarua Legislative Assembly witnessed a strong showing by the AIUDF, which currently leads in the Salmara, Chalakura, and Airkata (Fakirganj) Zila Parishad segments. Notably, independent candidate Farida Yasmin Miah has also disrupted the party dominance by leading in Naeralga’s Tilapara Zila Parishad, signaling a potential shift in the political landscape.
In the Dhubri Legislative Assembly, Congress candidate Masuma Begum clinched victory in Adabari Zila Parishad, while AIUDF’s Nazimuddin Shekhar won in Gaspara Zila Parishad. Congress further solidified its presence by leading in Jhagrarpar Zila Parishad and securing a win for Baby Begum in Motirchar, highlighting the party’s continued influence in the area.
The Gauripur Legislative Assembly presented a fiercely contested battle, with Sabura Khatun from the People’s Party leading in Mahamaya Zila Parishad. Congress candidates are currently leading in Panbari-Rangamati, Rupshi, and Sindurai Zila Parishads, indicating a strong foothold in the region.
Finally, the Golokganj Legislative Assembly saw the BJP making significant strides. Kalyani Roy Sikdar won unopposed in Agomoni-Halakura Zila Parishad, and BJP’s Malati Roy and Debabrata Roy are leading in Gangadhar and Golakganj Zila Parishads, respectively. Despite the BJP’s gains, Congress’s Eshak Ali is leading in Rayduk Zila Parishad, demonstrating the ongoing competition between the major political entities in Golokganj.
