Tripura Boosts Healthcare with Major Nursing Staff Recruitment

Agartala: Agartala witnessed a significant announcement on Monday as Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha declared the commencement of a substantial recruitment drive for nursing professionals.

The state government is set to induct 432 nurses, comprising 332 permanent positions and an additional 100 on a contractual basis, in a move aimed at fortifying the state’s healthcare infrastructure.

The announcement came during the celebration of International Nurses Day held at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala. Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr. Saha, who also oversees the Health portfolio, lauded the indispensable contribution of nurses to the healthcare system.

He highlighted the recent recruitment of 153 nurses earlier in the year and further stated, “We have secured the necessary financial approval from the Finance Department to onboard another 100 nursing staff on a contractual basis.”

Dr. Saha drew attention to the global significance of Nurses Day, observed annually on the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. He underscored the paramount importance of safeguarding the health, safety, and economic stability of nursing professionals. “Nurses are at the forefront of healthcare delivery,” Dr. Saha asserted, “They are the initial point of contact for patients entering a hospital and often become the beacon of hope for those in critical condition.”

Beyond their direct caregiving roles, Dr. Saha also emphasised the broader economic implications of a strong nursing workforce, suggesting that investing in nursing ultimately leads to improved public health outcomes and a more resilient economy.

He passionately encouraged the youth of Tripura to consider nursing as a viable and rewarding career path, pointing out the growing number of nurses from the state who are now employed internationally.

In a parallel development aimed at enhancing nursing education within the state, Dr. Saha shared the progress in upgrading the Nursing Training Institute to the Agartala Government Nursing College. He also noted the increased availability of higher education opportunities in allied health fields, with B.Sc Nursing, BDS, and MBBS courses now offered within Tripura.

Furthermore, the ANM Nursing Institute located in Udaipur, with a capacity of 40 seats, has been elevated to a GNM institute. The event saw the presence of prominent figures including Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, and other high-ranking health officials.
